2010 Abstract Prize Award Winners 03/09/2010

The Canadian Sleep Society (CSS) is pleased to announce two winners of the 2010 CSS Abstract Prize. Awards will be presented at the AGM in San Antonio, Texas in June 2010.

2009 "Donald O. Hebb Award for Distinguished Contributions to Psychology as a Science" 02/20/2009


We are proud to announce that Charles Morin (past-president of the CSS) has been awarded the 2009 “Donald O. Hebb Award for Distinguished Contributions to Psychology as a Science” by the Canadian Psychological Association. It is the highest honor from the CPA. His prize will be given to him on June 11th in Montreal during the Annual Convention. http://www.cpa.ca/

Charles Morin, PhD is Professor of Psychology and Director of the Sleep Research Center at the Université Laval in Quebec City. His main interests are in the epidemiology and treatment of insomnia, with a special expertise in the development and validation of cognitive-behavioural and combined psychological and pharmacological approaches for treating insomnia.

Professor Morin will be giving a keynote address at the 4th conference of the Canadian Sleep Society in Toronto April 26-28, 2009. His lecture entitled: “Insomnia: from epidemiology to treatment” will be on Tuesday April 28th. For more information about the conference, and to register on-line go to http://www.css-meeting.ca/

The Canadian Sleep Society is a featured parnter in this month's ICRH newsletter. In this issue you will find a story on our recent Cafe Scientifique where sleep experts talked to the public in the Niagara region about the impact of sleep loss and sleep disorders. You will also find featured research from Dr. Douglas Bradley of the University of Toronto (The Role of Fluid Redistribution in the Causation of Obstructive Sleep Apnea), and description of a knowledge transfer project by Dr. Roger Godbout (raising awareness in the education environment on the importance of sleep in children).

Report on Driver Fatigue Impairment released: Road safety experts urge drivers to be alert this long weekend 02/14/2008

TORONTO, Feb. 14 /CNW/ - The Highway Safety Roundtable today released important information on the dangerous effects of driver fatigue in a report entitled, "Working Together to Understand Driver Fatigue." The report contains research and information presented at a symposium last spring to mark Driver Fatigue Impairment Awareness Day.
